Luxembourg presents Kensuke’s Kingdom at the 2026 European Film Festival in the UAE
As part of the 2026 European Film Festival in the United Arab Emirates, the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Abu Dhabi was pleased to present Kensuke’s Kingdom, a Luxembourg co-produced animated feature film, to audiences in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah.
The film was screened at the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi on 22 May 2026 and at the RAK Chamber Theater in Ras Al Khaimah on 5 June 2026, welcoming families and children alike.
Based on the acclaimed novel by British author Michael Morpurgo, Kensuke’s Kingdom tells the story of a young boy stranded on a remote island, where an unexpected friendship changes his life. The film explores themes of courage, resilience, friendship and respect for nature.
The screenings highlighted Luxembourg’s contribution to internationally acclaimed animated cinema. As a co-production between Luxembourg, France and the United Kingdom, Kensuke’s Kingdom reflects the strength of European creative collaboration. More than fifty animation professionals contributed to the project over a period of nearly two and a half years.
The screening in Ras Al Khaimah was particularly significant as part of the Emirate’s first-ever European Film Festival, attracting strong interest from local families.
These events also highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy and artistic exchange in strengthening the ties between Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
