Luxembourg Embassy takes part in the European Day of Languages in Abu Dhabi

On 26th September, the Luxembourg Embassy in Abu Dhabi took part in the celebrations of the European Day of Languages, organised by the Goethe-Institut, the Alliance Française, and the British Council in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to the United Arab Emirates.

The European Day of Languages is an annual celebration of the cultural and linguistic diversity of the European continent and aims not only to raise awareness on the wide variety of languages spoken across Europe but also to encourage people to connect with one another through the learning of languages.

During the “speak dating” event, the visitors of the Luxemburgish stand could learn some Lëtzebuergesch words such as “Moien”(Hello), “Äddi”(Goodbye) and basic sentences like “Ech hunn dech gär” (I love you) and “Schéinen Dag!” (Have a nice day!), and taste a piece of its traditional cake the Bamkuch. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a multilingual country where the three official languages: Luxembourgish, French and German, are spoken along with the languages of the many diverse nationalities present in the country.

More than 300 people of different ages and backgrounds attended the event in Abu Dhabi which also included a speech by H.E. Matteo Fontana, Head of the EU Delegation in the UAE, LIVE European Music and a raffle draw.
