On November 11, 2020, Luxembourg's Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, delivered his annual Declaration on Foreign and European Policy to the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies.
In his speech, Jean Asselborn enumerated the many challenges posed by the current health crisis on Luxembourg’s diplomatic activities in the year 2020 resulting inter alia in one of largest consular repatriation operations in Luxembourg’s history. Minister Asselborn also outlined Luxembourg’s positions and priorities on major European and International issues, including in the Middle East with reference to the current dramatic situation in Syria and Yemen, the nuclear agreement with Iran (JCPOA), and Luxembourg’s support and commitment to a two-state solution in the MEPP.
The Minister stressed the continued importance of multilateralism, human rights and stronger international cooperation for peace.
