Common approaches to all third country nationals

Third country nationals subject to a visa obligation who wish to stay in Luxembourg for more than 3 months must apply for a long stay visa (D).

Before applying for a visa D, a non-EU national must apply, from his country of origin or residence, for a temporary authorisation to stay at the Immigration Directorate of the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

The application procedure for the authorisation to stay depends on the proposed activity – see below.

For residents in the UAE, in the 90 days following the receipt of the temporary authorisation to stay, the applicant must submit, in person, a long stay visa application (D) to the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Abu Dhabi.

Appointments should be requested via email  abudhabi.consular@mae.etat.lu by providing all the required documentation:

  • Visa application form ( long stay visa application (D) )
  • 2 recent and identical identity photos
  • a valid passport or a travel document accepted in the Schengen area, which is valid for at least 3 months after the expiry date of the requested visa;
  • the temporary authorisation to stay.

The Embassy reserves the right to request additional documentation to that mentioned above.

Appointments will be given on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm.
