National Day 2015

Published Sunday June 28 2015

On Tuesday 23rd June 2015 the Ambassador, Mrs Nicole Bintner-Bakshian, and the Executive Director of the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office, Mr Marc Scheer, celebrated the official birthday of His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri together with the Luxembourg community in the United Arab Emirates at the Residence of Ambassador. In an intimate event the guests from Abu Dhabi and Dubai gathered to enjoy homemade Luxembourg delicacies as well as specially shipped Luxembourg beverages.

The National Day festivities were kicked off with a typically Luxembourgish buffet as soon as the sun set to pay respect to our Muslim guests who were fasting for the Holy Month of Ramadan. They managed to enjoy their first truly Luxembourgish ‘iftar’.

Homemade specialities included Bouneschlupp (bean soup), Rieslingspaschtéit, Feiersténgszalot (beef salad), Gromperenzalot (potato salad), Vol-au-Vent, Gromperenkichelcher (potato cakes) and a few others. Äppeltaart (apple pie) and Quetschentaart matt Schlaagsahn (plum tart with whipped cream) featured prominently for deserts.

In the wake of Luxembourg taking over the Presidency of the European Union on July 1 this year, guests were treated to a fun quiz to test their knowledge about the upcoming events and the impact they will have on the country. Children and adults participated in the quiz with great enthusiasm and two winners walked away with specially designed Presidency sports T-shirts to keep fit at all time.

The Ambassador thanked the guests for keeping the Luxembourg community united in the UAE and announced that the Luxembourg Presidency will be featured in the UAE with exciting events for families and friends.
