Diplomats get on their bikes to cycle to work

Published Tuesday January 12 2016

As one of the #cycletowork Ambassadors appointed by The National for its annual campaign promoting a healthier lifestyle, Nicole Bintner-Bakshian, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, encouraged her colleagues from the European Union and beyond to join her to cycle to work.

As she said in an interview with the National and Abu Dhabi TV: ‘It is nice to cycle to work by yourself, but if you want to achieve an impact and serve as a role model, you put across a stronger message if you do it together’.

This is what pushed her to motivate her colleagues to join her for a bike ride to work. On January 12, 2016, some 60 diplomats including 10 Ambassadors from the EU, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom donned their cars to get on the bike and cycle along the beautiful Abu Dhabi Corniche from the Luxembourg Embassy to the EU Delegation. They were accompanied by the initiator of the campaign Mohammed Al Otaiba, the Editor-in-chief of The National who reflected on the event:

‘I was overwhelmed this morning by the turnout and enthusiasm. …Indeed together we can make a difference - and history.’
